Buying Natural Cat Toys: What to Check Beyond Non-Toxic
Non-toxic is easy to put in a product description and difficult to interpret without context. It does not identify the material, explain how an attachment is secured or tell a buyer which substances were assessed. For a cat toy range, those details are more useful than the adjective on its own.
Write down every component
A loofah shape may also include sewing thread, eyes, a hanging loop, a wand or a decorative tail. A coconut-fiber ball may contain a core or binding material. Ask for the complete list, including colors, coatings and any fragrance or catnip addition.
Catnip should be specified as an ingredient or feature of a particular SKU, not assumed from a mouse-shaped photograph. The same applies to claims about an undyed or uncoated product: they should match the item and the manufacturing process being quoted.
Inspect the small details that change during play
Review seams, knots and attachment points on the sample. Look for loose parts, exposed fastening elements and strands that may come away. A chemical assessment does not answer these physical-construction questions.
Ask the supplier how those features will be checked during production. If an attachment test is part of the requirement, agree its method and acceptance criteria. Keep the approved construction with the reference sample so a later substitution is easy to identify.
Make testing answer a defined question
Give the laboratory or compliance reviewer the complete product description and destination market. Ask what assessment is relevant to the actual construction and intended claims. Read the sample identification and report scope before treating a result as applicable to your order.
A report for one material does not establish that every finished toy is non-toxic under every condition. Retailer requirements may also be more specific than the information supplied with a standard catalogue. Resolve that difference before approving artwork.
Prepare the product for the store and the home
Show the intended play type and supervision advice clearly. Explain when damaged toys or loose components should be removed. Keep warnings readable on a small pack; reducing the type size until everything fits is not a useful solution.
For wholesale orders, define whether a set is one saleable unit or several individually labeled items. That decision affects barcodes, pack counts and how a shop replaces a damaged unit. A well-specified cat range works for the receiving team as well as the customer.
