"Sustainable" covers a wide range of materials with very different stories. Here's an honest comparison of the main options a natural pet range might use.

Upcycled vs. simply renewable
There's a meaningful difference between a material that's renewable (like bamboo, which is fast-growing but still newly harvested) and one that's upcycled from an existing waste stream (like coffee wood, from trees already removed from production, or coconut fiber, a farming by-product). Upcycled materials generally have a stronger, more defensible sustainability story because they don't require new cultivation.
Recycled plastic: sustainable, but not biodegradable
Recycled plastic toys reduce new plastic production, which is a real sustainability benefit — but they are not biodegradable and will still shed microplastic over their lifespan. Don't conflate "made from recycled material" with "eco-friendly" in the same way as a biodegradable natural material.
